Sotheby’s Spring 2008 Sale Of Contemporary Art Asia: On March 17, 2008
This spring Sotheby’s New York will hold its fifth sale of Contemporary Art Asia: China Korea Japan on March 17th, 2008. The sale, which will include 292 lots, will primarily feature works by seminal Chinese contemporary artists, including mainland, Taiwan, Hong Kong and overseas, such as Yue Minjun, Zhang Xiaogang, Zeng Fanzhi, Ai Weiwei, Zhao Wuji (Zao Wou-Ki), Geng Jianyi, Yan Pei-Ming, Liu Ye and Wang Guangyi, among many others, with a smaller offering of works from Japan and Korea. Property from the sale will be on exhibition beginning March 13th and is estimated to bring $23.1 / 33.4 million.

Lucian Freud: The Painter’s Etchings, on view at MoMA highlights the artist’s exceptional achievements in the medium of etching and explores the crucial relationship between these works on paper and his works on canvas. In a career spanning more than six decades, Freud (British, b. Germany, 1922), has redefined portraiture and the nude through his frank scrutiny of the human form. Although best known as a painter, Freud has made etching a constant part of his artistic practice since 1982.

Adonna Khare creates a world without humans, a natural paradise at first glance, but looking closer reveals a more entangled kingdom. Museum Of Fine Arts Opens ‘Stunning Photos Of Antarctica’
Stunning photographs of Antarctica will be on view at the Museum of Fine Arts (Springfield, MA) from March 25 through June 1 in the Smithsonian Institution traveling exhibition Wondrous Cold: An Antarctic Journey. The exhibit features 50 dramatic color and black-and-white photographs of the world’s most hostile continent. Award-winning photographer Joan Myers spent October 2002 through January 2003 photographing the scientific activities and daily life at McMurdo research station in Antarctica. Large panoramas of Antarctica’s austere beauty are juxtaposed with wildlife, people, and the abandoned huts of early explorers Scott and Shackleton.
Sotheby’s London To Offer Its Most Important Greek Sale
Following the rise and growth of the Greek Art market in recent years, Sotheby’s forthcoming sale of Greek Art on Thursday, April 17, 2008 will be the most important sale of its kind ever staged. Sales of Greek Art at Sotheby’s in 2007 realised a record-breaking £15.6 million / €22.5 million, which represented a 97.5% increase on the same figure in 2006 and was the highest annual total ever achieved for sales of Greek Art at any auction house. The forthcoming sale is set to present 177 lots.
