Insight : Dopamine Skate and Surf Installation

Insight have launched an impressive art installation series entitled Dopamine, from setting up underwater art installations with surf actions shots in Bali and haveing re-created famous skate spots in the middle of the Balinese jungle.

The surf installation was inspired by Beatnicks, Steve Gorrow embarked on a journey beneath the sea to explore the depths of the mind and creativity. Along with the help of his brother, Steve shipped out to Bali to once again take on the massive feat of building above and beneath the sea to give birth to the latest Insight surf spectacle, that is Dopamine. Not one to cut corners on creativity, Steve combined upsidedown bedrooms, naked girls on motor bikes and underwater shanty towns with the amazing skill of the Insight surf team (surfnics) and the photographic talents of Dustin Humphrey to create an array of split double world madness.Welcome to Insight’s latest surf campaign featuring surfers Kai Otton, Luke Stedman, Warren Smith, Jared Mell, Made Lana,Jason Apparicio & The Jamaican Surf Team.

It is a holiday destination to unwind and relax, it’s a place to drink and hang out with friends and soak in the beautiful surroundings. One thing Bali is not however is a  skate destination. So when the Insight skate team went on a trip there recently, with no spots to skate, they simply built their own… Fraser Anderson embarked on one of his most challenging projects to date, where he ventured to Bali to give skateboarding a vacation in paradise. What initially sounded like a vacation, quickly turned into the over ambitious project of recreating skate spots in the most surreal of settings. Having pushed the skate / art installation thing to the next level in the “Good Morning Pluto” fun house, Fraser wanted this campaign to be more about the skaters and the skateboarding with the obstacle later becoming the ‘art’ by its composition in bizarre surroundings.After lots of blood, sweat and beers, Fraser came up with the goods creating skate spots on a beach, in a jungle and through a rice field where Daniel Shimizu, Brian Brown, Vaughan Baker, Ben Barretto, Sam Partaix and Tyler Mumma all had the time of their lives skating away the days in paradise… ‘It’s trips like these that make me not want to commit suicide” –Daniel Shimizu, Bali 2008
