Apple sells one million iPhone 3G’s during first weekend of sales

Apple has announced that they have already sold one million iPhone 3G’s.

With just three days, and totaling sales from 21 countries Apple sold their one millionth iPhone 3G on Sunday.

“iPhone 3G had a stunning opening weekend,” said Steve Jobs, Apple’s CEO. “It took 74 days to sell the first one million original iPhones, so the new iPhone 3G is clearly off to a great start around the world.”

While it seems like a great milestone, and certainly shows that this was a device that was in demand, I cannot really agree with Steve Jobs comparison to the 74 days that it took to sell one million of the original iPhones.

I do feel that there was a little more excitement with the 3G launch, because it did attract some newer more casual users thanks to the seemingly lower price, and we of course had the fanboys and fangirls that were more than willing to upgrade, but the iPhone 3G was also available in many more counties.

That being said, one million in one weekend is still an impressive number.
