Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA) To show Lawrence Weiner – ‘As Far as the Eye can See’

The Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA) will open the exhibit Lawrence Weiner: As Far as the Eye can See on 13 April. The first major United States retrospective of the work of New York-based artist Lawrence Weiner (b.1942, Bronx, NY), one of the key figures associated with the emergence and foundations of conceptual art in the 1960s, Lawrence Weiner: As Far as the Eye Can See provides a comprehensive examination of Weiner’s remarkable and cohesive oeuvre, assembling key selections and bodies of work from throughout his 40-year career.

Takashi Murakami Retrospective At The Brooklyn Museum

The most comprehensive retrospective to date of the work of internationally acclaimed Japanese artist Takashi Murakami includes more than ninety works in various media that span the artist’s entire career, installed in more than 18,500 square feet of gallery space, at The Brooklyn Museum.  Born in Tokyo in 1962, Murakami is one of the most influential and acclaimed artists to have emerged from Asia in the late twentieth century, creating a wide-ranging body of work that consciously bridges fine art, design, animation, fashion, and popular culture.

Tate Modern To Show First Major Museum Display Of Street Art

In the first commission to use the iconic river façade of Tate Modern, the gallery will present the work of six internationally acclaimed artists, whose work is intricately linked to the urban environment. Street Art at Tate Modern, sponsored by Nissan QASHQAI, and is the first major public museum display of Street Art in London. On exhibition 23 May – 25 August 2008.

J. Paul Getty Museum Presents ‘Ten Years In Focus: The Artist And The Camera’

The J. Paul Getty Museum opened the exhibit Ten Years in Focus: The Artist and the Camera through August 10. Since the beginning of photography in the 1830s, painters and sculptors took up the new medium as a tool. The theme of the artist and the camera has been an important aspect of the Getty’s photographs collection since its inception in 1984 and continues to shape its holdings. This can be seen in the selection for this exhibition of acquisitions made in the last decade, which explores the interconnectedness of art and photography.
